Don’t be a job seeker, be a job creator!

There is no doubt that entrepreneurship has led to the world’s development, where tangible development is mostly on a commercial basis. I strongly believe that is why the Ministry of Education made entrepreneurship a principle subject in secondary schools.It is sad that most students who finish high school do so having job seeking intentions in mind rather than being job creators. The same ambition goes on even after they acquire higher education, and I think this all stems from one problem, the absence of entrepreneurial knowledge! Due to the emergence and dominance of entrepreneurship in the world, students should think big - beyond their boundaries - hence coming up with different business ideas, different projects and add all their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to the world.Last Friday, the Minster of Youth and ICT also insisted on the same thing during a ceremony to award students who won the Best Business Idea competition, organised by the School Entrepreneurship Network (SEN).I was not only amazed by the amount of money the students were awarded but also how these young people actually came up with such hopeful business ideas. This made me believe that entrepreneurship is really possible not only for people already practicing it, but also students on their way there! During his speech, the minister encouraged students to keep up creativity and innovation. He also encouraged them to acquire all the necessary entrepreneurial skills and knowledge, hence guaranteeing their status as full blown job creators.The Minister also shared with the students different inspirational stories where, at the end, students had not had enough of his encouraging and motivating words. This I truly believe boosted their momentum.The ceremony was swarmed with various entrepreneurs from inside and outside of Rwanda, government officials, teachers and students, not forgetting myself – I never miss an opportunity to learn and upgrade my knowledge and skills. I talked to most of the people around and came across two gentlemen, (Mr.) Jonathan and (Mr.) Ronald, who were very much pleased to see young students come up with such brilliant business ideas. During our educative chat, they opened my mind to more knowledgeable ideas.I believe personal improvement starts with you: your values, attitude, habits, lifestyle, goals and aspirations. Once you have these clear, then the journey is simple. Do not give up on that dream. There will be so many things trying to pull you down, however get a grip on that rope, and say I will make it.Many of us give up the first time something fails, but we have to try more than once before positive results set in. Remember, a positive attitude towards life and everything around you will greatly help you move on despite negative circumstances.
