MTN donates to orphans

GASABO - MTN launched their second ‘21 days of Y’ello Care’ annual campaign Friday in Gasabo District. The campaign began at Kinyinya Orphanage where Frw800,000 and bags of clothes were donated. “The company initiated this campaign to pay back to the community by carrying out charity activities to help the disadvantaged,” said Mary Asiimwe, the human resource manager of MTN Rwanda. “As an orphan, I was so grateful about MTN’s initiative,” said Albert Nsabyimana, head of the orphanage. MTN Rwanda’s public relations officer, John Bosco Sendahangarwa, explained that during the 21 days MTN staff will visit refugee camps, military barracks and institutions of higher learning to give short lectures on subjects within their fields of expertise. “It’s required that all staff participate physically and generously,” said Sendahangarwa. The ‘21 Days of Y’ello Care’ programme is tailored to ensure that staff members are able to participate in their respective community initiatives without adversely impacting the company’s day-to-day operations, explained Asiimwe. “We are all proud to be part of a company that is committed to the social uplifting of the community,” one MTN employee said. The South African MTN Group has launched similar programmes in all 21 countries in which it operates in Africa and the Middle East. Ends
