Make a statement this season with a bold-coloured flowing print dress. There is no better way to freshen up your style, while still feeling glamorous. While print-trends typically have to do with the style of the print: from microprints such as Vineyard Vines, to tribal prints to geometric prints to floral prints, this trend has much more to do with cut and tailoring. This leaves the door wide open for different personalities and styles. Italian fashion house Dolce&Gabanna has several feminine print dresses in their collection this season. The house designed a show-stopping floor length beige and white rose gown with body rushing and a mermaid skirt. Keeping in line with the neutral colors, the house also designed a pale pink rose sheath with sepia lace accents. Christopher Kane, a London based Scottish designer, has a purple transparent creation, with over-sized embroidered black flowers and leather trim. American designer Michael Kors, famous for judging Project Runway, designed a gold shimmer sleeveless full-skirted dress with animal inspired print. Celebrities are also playing with the style. The actress who played the damsel in Hollywood’s Spiderman trilogy, Kirsten Dunst, wore a gorgeous Dolce &Gabanna red and orange print dress to a gala with slight puff sleeves and a structured bodice. British actress Kiera Knightly wore a soft peach and blue floral print Moschino dress at a recent photo shoot. Actress and Marc Jacob muse Dakota Fanning wore the designer’s retro-inspired pale daisy sleeveless sheath. Michelle Williams, actress playing the tantalizing Marliyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, wore a muted print dress with a matching coat and pale pink shoes. Ladylike print dresses have several distinctive qualities about them. One, they typically are free flowing from the waist. Think - loose skirts and dresses that don’t hug your hips. Secondly, the hemline is traditionally a bit lower. The highest this style should be is right above your knees, although the most traditional is tea-length, meaning the hem ends around your calf. Lastly, think more conservative: there should be minimal skin showing up top. High sleeveless necklines, or slightly plunging puff or three quarter length sleeves look great. To spice up the look, grab your pair of high black suede pumps, and dazzle with crystal earrings. You’ll be the belle of the ball. That’s the fashion scoop for this week. Got a thought? Trend?
