Athletes from host Rwanda were by far the best performers at the Kung- Fu Wushu Genocide Memorial Tournament 2023 that took place over the weekend, taking home over half of medals that were up for grabs. READ ALSO: Kung Fu Championship returns after two years Organised by Rwanda Kung-Fu Wushu Federation, the annual tournament is aimed at honoring victims and athletes, in particular, killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Six countries namely Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, D.R Congo and host nation Rwanda were represented at the tournament which attracted 114 athletes including 20 women. The attendees on Saturday, June 17, visited Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, in Gisozi and competed on Sunday at STECOL Corporation located in Masoro industrial zone. The tournament was contested in two categories namely; demonstration (Taolu) and Combat (SANDA). Rwanda dominated the competition winning 16 medals, followed by Kenya with five medals, Uganda 4 and Burundi 2 while Tanzania and DRC returned home with at least a medal.
