Eight schools have qualified to the semi-finals of this year’s Coca Cola Inter-schools volley tournament set for on 28th - 29th June in Butare. In the girls’ category, GS St Joseph Kabgayi will be squaring it out with ENDP Karubanda of southern province while GS Rwaza will be facing APEDI Rwaza. In the boys’ category Kigali schools tormentors, College Christ Roi and College Gisenyi will be facing GS Officielle Butare and Petit seminaire Karubanda respectively. In quarterfinals, College Christ Roi ousted Lycee de Kigali while College Gisenyi eliminated Kagarama Secondary School. The event is organized by the Rwanda School Sports Federation (FRSS) in corroboration with FRVB. This year’s inter-school started May 21 at the District level and it’s estimated to cost Frw 5m which will be bankrolled by Coca- Cola. Recently, Coca-Cola kept its partnership with the local volleyball federation intact by sinking $20,000 (approx. Frw 11 million) into this year’s National Volleyball Championship. Bralirwa under their Coca-Cola brand are one of the prominent partners of volleyball in Rwanda. According to Emmanuel Ndungutse, a federation official, the package has supplemented by a Frw 26 million cash package that is to be released from the ministry of sports and culture. The even gives the students an exclusive opportunity to win school fees, books, school bags and trophies from Coca-Cola.
