Team Type 1 - Sanofi arrives in Rwanda as defending champions of the Tour of Rwanda and also as defending champions for those living with Diabetes.Diabetes affects 366 million people worldwide and if this is not put to a stop that number is likely to increase to over 500 million people by the year 2030.In Rwanda over 2 million people have diabetes. According to the International Diabetes Federation 81% of people in Africa living with Diabetes are undiagnosed. With appropriate diet, exercise, treatment and technology, we believe anyone with diabetes can achieve their dreams.”Phil Southerland, Co-Founder and CEO of Team Type 1, says, “No child should be without insulin never mind die to the lack of this life saving medication no matter where they live”.TT1 return to Rwanda as defending champions of the Tour of Rwanda for the third year in a row with four riders with Type 1 Diabetes and two riders, who believe in the cause of raising Diabetes awareness while racing the 876km and 12.407m elevation.Team Type 1 started the Tour of Rwanda with the Prologue – unfortunately not finishing on the podium but gave the riders the opportunity to acclimatize and recover from a shaking trip.
