Social entrepreneurship to transform economy

Social entrepreneurship will be a contributing factor to economic transformation based on its ability to combine resourcefulness of traditional entrepreneurship and inventing new approaches to change society.Nassir Katuramu, East Africa’s Venture Programme Manager for Ashoka says that social entrepreneurship will spur the country’s growth and development agenda in its ambitions of attaining middle income status 2020.Founded in 1980, Ashoka is a global civil-society organisation, that has been identifying and supporting social entrepreneurs it’s headquarters are in United States of America.Katuram noted that helping the youth to engage in community-benefiting ventures such as clubs, organisations and businesses will influence social change.“Ashoka believes that the most effective way to promote social change is to invest in social entrepreneurs who identify opportunities to transform local and global systems,” he addsDuring the ongoing global entrepreneur week Ashoka will highlight the work of four local transformational social entrepreneurs they have identified.Nicholas Hitimana one of Ashoka fellow who is creating a new agricultural value chain believes that social entrepreneurship will make Rwanda more competitive and based on sound social and environmental principles.
