Uganda is ready to host Cecafa, says Musonye

CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has declared Uganda ready to host this year’s Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup which gets underway on November 24 to December 8 in Kampala.“Everything is ready. Stadiums are ready, hotels and transport facilities are in place,” Musonye told Times Sport on Monday after the tournament’s draw held in Kampala.He added, “Teams and officials will be treated well and on top of that, we expect a thrilling competition.”Musonye noted that he expects a health competition and a tough challenge for the title from a number of contenders including Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Uganda.He said, “In all, all teams here are good and if we are talking standards of the competition, we will not be disappointed.”Amavubi open their campaign against Malawi on November 26; face Zanzibar on November 29 before winding up against Eritrea on December 1. All matches will be played at Namboole national stadium.Uganda, the record winners at 12 times, will open against fierce neighbours Kenya on November 24, with group-mates Ethiopia and South Sudan doing the early kick-off.Rwanda last won the title in 1999 when the tournament was first held in Kigali. Rwanda B beat Kenya in the final at Amahoro stadium.Last year, Rwanda lost to Uganda in a post-match penalty shoot-out after Cranes came twice from behind to tie 2-2 after 90 minutes.The winners take home $30,000 (Rwf18.9m), runners-up $20,000 (Rwf12.5m) and the third team will walk away with $10,000 (Rwf6.3m).
