BK’s Mobile Banking registers 1000 accounts in a month

Bank of Kigali’s newly launched MobiBank package has received over one thousand registrations, a move hailed by the bank as a sign of its clients’ fast response using better banking practices.A statement from the bank said that the service is designed to improve access to financial services for the Rwandan population as well as cut time costs for clients who would otherwise have had to travel a long distance to get services.“Bank of Kigali’s five Mobile banking vehicle vans operating under a service branded BK MobiBank have so far recorded 1,248 accounts opened and mobilised Rwf.409 million in deposits since its inception in mid September,” a statement from BK reads.Kigali City leads with around 338 accounts opened; followed by Eastern Province 270, Western Province 236, Southern Province 224 and last Northern Province with 180.James Gatera, BK’s Managing Director, said that he is optimistic that the number of deposits and accounts opened will increase due to the high demand for the service.“Besides account opening, deposit mobilisation and cash withdrawal, we also intend to provide other banking services such as Micro Lending and we look forward to serving those clients that would otherwise have been excluded from enjoying BK services. BK will continue to provide innovative products and services in order to live up to its motto of financially transforming lives,” Gatera said in the statement.He noted that the product is customised to target the financially underserved in society. “We are currently analysing which locations have more demand than others and thereafter prepare a schedule for those vans, ensuring that markets with high potential are served with ease,” noted Lawson Naibo, the bank’s Chief Operating Officer.He added that; “We are also working with authorities at provincial, district and sector levels to sensitise the population on the services,In the next few months we should be in a position to gauge whether to increase the number of vans in particular provinces where the demand in high.”Bank of Kigali is Rwanda’s largest bank by market share of total assets.
