RWANDA basketball federation (Ferwaba) has appointed four coaches to prepare the men and women national teams for next year’s Fiba Zone V Championship which will be held in Dar es salaam, Tanzania. The federation’s secretary general Richard Mutabazi said yesterday that the quartet will be given temporary coaching roles as they devise means of appointing permanent coaches.“We have appointed these coaches to prepare teams which will be competing in the zonal qualification. They are not permanent coaches for the national team,”“We are devising means of having full time coaches appointed with the help of the Ministry of Sports and once we have come to an agreement with them, then that is when we shall announce permanent coaches for national teams,” added Mutabazi. The appointed coaches include Moise Mutokambali and Espoir’s coach Jean Bahufite who will take up the scalps of the men’s team left by Serbian Nenad Amanovic who was shown the exit following poor performances during the Fiba Africa U-18 tournament held in Maputo, Mozambique this year.Charles Mbazumutima, current APR coach and Charles Mushumba who manages UNR’s men and women teams will take charge of the national women team.“Local coaches need to be trusted and with patience and time exercised, and then we can expect positive results from them,” noted Mutabazi. The championship will attract eleven nations including Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and hosts Tanzania.
