SOUTHERN PROVINCE RUHANGO — Hundreds of students from various schools in Ruhango district on Sunday held a peaceful march in protest of genocide ideology among youths. Chanting the ‘never again’ slogan to genocide in Rwanda, the students marched through Ruhango town towards the district genocide memorial site where they raid a wreath to the graves. Remains of about 10,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide were buried at the Ruhango site. The participating schools included, Ruhango Secondary School, College Bethel, ETO Gitarama, and Ecole Secondaire de Kigoma. They were accompanied by various district and opinion leaders. While at the site, religious leaders of various religious sects said prayers in respect of the genocide victims. And several leaders urged the students to stand up against genocide ideology, and shun revisionists in and outside Rwanda. Vedaste Mugemanyi, the vice Mayor in charge of social affairs said that students have received various guest speakers on issues concerning war against genocide ideology. The numbers of trauma cases in schools, this year, have reduced compared to past years. This is because various students have been equipped with knowledge on avoiding genocide ideology and victims have also been able to live a positive life, Mugemanyi told journalists. He added that the idea of mobilizing youths is to have them at the forefront of eliminating the vice. In a related development, Tito Rutaremara the Ombudsman held a public lecture on genocide ideology at Mukingi Secondary School in Byimana Sector on the same day.Ends
