EASTERN PROVINCE RWAMAGANA — Save for the Souls (SOS) Rwanda has committed itself to build a children’s village worth about FrwI.4 billion in Nyamirama sector, Kayonza District. This was revealed by Alfred Munyentwari, the country representative for SOS Rwanda, during the ground breaking ceremony last week. The facility to be called Village d’enfants will accommodate a nursery school, primary school and a health centre. SOS is charity organisation that largely focuses on helping the needy especially the orphans and vulnerable children. Damas Muhororo, the district Mayor welcomed the move, saying it was timely. He promised the district’s support to SOS activities. Sounding optimistic, in the role SOS will pray in the development of the district, the mayor said such activities will contribute to achieving government’s Vision 2020. Mayor Muhororo appealed to residents to profit from such opportunity by enrolling children in school. Noting that education is the key to development, the mayor asked residents to feel ownership of SOS activities, saying they are the primary beneficiaries. Esron Niyonsaba, of the Prime Minister’s Office, hailed SOS for activities that promote the rights of children countrywide. He also asked residents to embrace the organisation activities. The construction of the facility is expected to last for 18 months. SOS has three similar projects throughout the country including SOS Byumba, SOS Gikongoro and SOS Kigali. The charity organisation began its work in Rwanda in 1978 when the first SOS Children’s Village was established at Kacyiru in Kigali City. Ends
