Rwandan rally driver Giancarlo Davite will represent Rwanda at Kenya’s Safari World Rally Championships that will take place between June 22 to 25. The celebrated speedster will drive a Ford Fiesta, a car that is stronger than Subaru STI and Mitsubishi Evolution X that has previously been driving. Davite told Times Sport he will use the Ford Fiesta only for this rally. “It is not my car, so I am only using it for this rally,” he said. This year’s Safari will feature 10 World Rally Team Priority 1 cars, 12 Priority 2 entrants as well as five Priority 3 contraptions. Giancarlo is no stranger to Kenyan gravel roads having tackled his first Safari in 2004. He has had a tough time at the rally before as he has recorded multiple retirements in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2021 and 2022. He has, nevertheless, bounced back with two top 10 finishes in 2019 (seventh) in an EVOX and 2004 (ninth) in a VW Golf GTI. Davite told Times Sport that he will fight hard during the rally, but did not promise a podium finish because he expects a tough competition due to the fact that it is a world championship. For the Safari rally, drivers can expect rocky and rutted tracks and unpredictable weather which could transform dry and dusty trails into glutinous mud-baths.
