The Ombudsman, Aloysie Cyanzaire, has called on the general public to come forward and provide evidence in corruption related cases. While addressing the quarterly national anti-corruption advisory council in Kigali, Cyanzaire said despite the political will and commitment to fight corruption, the population’s attitude to report and resist any form of the vice was still undermining government’s efforts. “We call upon all people to be part of the fight. It’s not only the government’s effort to fight corruption. The community should participate by reporting and resisting corruption tendencies.” The meeting also discussed preparations for the anti-corruption week and reviewed UN resolutions to fight corruption where Ghana and Burkina Faso would be evaluated by Rwanda.Concerning anti-corruption week scheduled for December 5 -9, 2012, the meeting requested that the representative from the ministry of local government be included on the organising technical committee. Meanwhile Cyanzaire said plans were underway to put in place suggestion boxes at work places to report cases of sexual harassment and also facilitate whistleblowers. The anti-corruption advisory council is made up by the Chief Ombudsman, Police, CID, Prosecution, Ministries of local government and justice and the high court representatives.
