Koreans in Rwanda mark national day

South Koreans living in Rwanda, on Thursday, gathered to mark the National Foundation Day where they celebrate the creation of the state of Gojoseon (ancient Korea) founded by Dangun Wanggeom in 2333 BC.The Minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, who joined the Koreans in marking the day, said the existing cooperation between both countries has contributed a lot in the improvement of ICT, infrastructure and rural development.Nsengimana noted that South Korea works with Rwanda in the areas of capacity building, education, infrastructure and rural development, areas he said are key towards achieving the 2020 Vision and EDPRS targets.He gave an example of the ICT School at the National University of Rwanda and the Kigali Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC), among other infrastructures, which are some of the results of the cooperation. South Korea trained 627 Rwandans between 2009 and 2011 in different domains. In addition, some Korean giants, including Samsung Electronics and Korea Telecom, have started investing in Rwanda with the latter installing a fiber optic cable covering 2,500 kilometers of the country, the minister said.“This ceremony is another occasion to deepen this bilateral cooperation,” Nsengimana remarked.Mid this month South Korean Ambassador to Rwanda Hwang Soon -Taik presented his credentials to President Paul Kagame.
