The wait will be over pretty soon. Rwanda’s rap king Jay Polly is almost done with putting finishing touches on his second album, which is set for launch on December 2, 2012. The 10-track album, a fusion of rap and Afro beat, will feature some of the big names in the Rwandan music industry. In one of the hit singles, “Mwami uganje” and “Hishamunda” that were released few months ago, the Primus Guma Guma SuperStar Season Two finalist collaborated with Princess Pricilla and Bruce Melody.Jay Polly, born Joshua Tuyishime, was raised in the Kigali City suburb of Gikondo in the 1980s. He started his music career at the age of eight and spent some time in the church choir. From there, he started shaping his voice with the help of his mother. “Umurage” is loaded with 10 songs, nine of which are in Kinyarwanda apart from the song, “You and Me”, which is in English.Jay Polly, 24, is no stranger to entertainment. He has graced some of the most prestigious events in the country’s budding music scene and has shared stage with regional and international superstars.“As we promote hip-hop to get to another level, we are making sure that we move at a constant speed and that is why I am working hard so that I release this album,” he told The New Times.He added that with the time left to his launch, which will take place at the Expo Grounds in Gikondo, he will have made video clips for all his songs. Currently, he is busy working on the remaining five videos. MTN-Rwanda and Bralirwa are among sponsors of Jay Polly`s launch. He says he is also in talks with various musicians to grace his launch.“I want to make this launch totally different and exceptional not only from what I did during the launch of my first album, but even from what other musicians have been doing,” he said. Jay Polly launched his first album; “Iwacu” in 2008.He says the time he has taken to work on the album is enough to for him to churn out something new for his funs. Jay Polly is a founding member of Tuff Gang, a group of three rappers formed in 2008.
