Careless doctors should be tried

Dear Editor, Through your paper let me blame the authorities who tend to ignore the increasing cases of careless doctors. This week I was so disappointed by a so called qualified doctor at the one and only one national referral hospital after neglecting a pregnant mother, resulting into the death of the baby. This mother was expecting a second born child through cesarean and she had an appointment with a doctor three days before, a thing she respected. I wouldn’t say that it was unfortunate because immediately after leaving the hospital later in the evening, she felt labour pains. The labour pains were her blessings as she expected them to save her from the ‘knife’. She rushed back to the hospital three days before the doctor’s appointment due to pains of labour. That night, the doctor on duty checked on her briefly and said she was alright with high possibilities of having a normal delivery. Then the doctor left her with nurses. On Sunday morning, the situation got worse but the doctor was no where to be seen and nurses were taking instructions from the doctor on phone. Nurses were scared and they started apologising to the patient that they can’t do any thing as the doctor is not picking his phone. The situation was alarming to everyone in the hospital when the doctor came back late to check on the tired mother and the baby in the womb. She was rushed to be operated but her uterus had busted.The dead baby was removed and the mother is still under intensive care with little chances of having a baby again. Kanombe
