Belgium-based Rwandan artiste impresses at charity gig

Renowned Rwandan musician, Jean Pierre Ntwali, better known by his stage name Jali, and based in Belgium, on Saturday night, staged a charity show at Kigali Serena Hotel that left music fans longing for more.The concert was organised by Rwanda Heart Foundation to raise funds and create awareness for people suffering from heart ailments. The concert kicked off at 8 p.m, with Maili Sugi, an upcoming artiste and student at the National University of Rwanda as a curtain raiser.She performed three renditions including; ‘Turning Tables’, ‘Who you Are’ and ‘Breaking the Law’. The next performer was R&B singer Shanel who sang three songs including her Swahili track -“Nakutaka”, before the main presenter Jali took to the stage.Clad in a grey T-shirt, a pair of blue jeans and black coat, Jali first staged a one-man show, before inviting his drummer, who added flavour to the show.He then performed live, strumming the guitar to the best of his ability, thrilling the fully-parked lobby. In his first appearance, Jali belted out a number of songs, among others, ‘Mon paris’, ‘Sel et citron’ and ‘Un jour ou l`autre’.The singer-songwriter kept the crowd on their feet thanks to his antics and stage presence, along with his style that kept the crowd eager to watch every minute of his performance.After belting out nine songs, the star invited other musicians for a joint performance before he went off stage. The singer then took a short break, leaving other artistes to take over the stage before making a surprise come-back.Jali later made the last performance short but beautiful, leaving the crowd screaming and asking him to carry on. Unfortunately, it was time for the curtains to be drawn on the memorable concert.The charity concert was sponsored by Kigali Serena Hotel, Ishyo Arts Centre, the Belgium Embassy, among others. Proceeds will support heart patients.
