Partnership with German state to focus on job creation

The Rhineland-Palatinate state in Germany has pledged to continue funding grassroots projects in Rwanda. The region’s Minister for Interior, Roger Lewentz, said his government was committed to continue working with Rwanda to improve the population’s welfare. Speaking during a meeting with the Ministers of Local Government and Education, Lewentz said their focus now was to empower the youth because they make the biggest percentage of the population. “Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) through WDA, equipment and tools; capacity building, youth empowerment through vocational and practical training programs, are our main focus now,” he added.The Minister of Local government, James Musoni, hailed the new focus saying capacity building partnerships among the youth was crucial. “Our emphasis is that we invest in people a move that helps in tapping their full potential, hence contributing to both individual and national development.” Rhineland-palatinate’s head in the Ministry of Interior, Gehard Fuckher, revealed that Euros 2.5 million had been set aside for projects in Rwanda. “In the past 30 years, we invested over Euros70 million,” said the official.The Rhineland Palatinate administration will invest in technical and vocational education and exchange programmes for both countries. They will also invest in energy, especially renewable energy, in villages (Imidugudu).Other projects include solar energy for street lighting, urbanization (City of Kigali in partnership with Mainz City), energy (solar and other renewable energy sources), affordable housing technologies and sanitation.
