Regional military officers convene at Peace Academy

The Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA), which is operated by the Ministry of Defence, will host a week-long international course on Security Sector Reform (Level II), starting today until October 14. The course is a follow up of the same course (Level I) that was hosted by the Musanze-based centre in February this year and is the first of its kind to be held on the African continent.Twenty six participants from six African countries will attend the course.The countries that have sent course participants are Burundi, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.“Resource persons and facilitators for the course are from Rwanda and the International Security Sector Advisory Team (ISSAT) based in Geneva, Switzerland,” ” reads a statement signed by the RPA director, Col Jill Rutaremara.The overall objective of the course, according to Rutaremara, is to discuss the potential role of practitioners of a national security sector reform process, apply soft skills required to engage in these reforms and identify key lessons from practical experience.
