NEW Yanga coach Ernie Brandts expressed his delight with a point against bitter rivals Simba in his first match in the Tanzania’s Vodacom league played on Wednesday.The draw maintained Simba’s unbeaten start to the new season. Simba are the champions of Tanzania mainland.Brandts praised his opponents for a good game but also applauded his players for working tirelessly to come from a goal down to get a draw. It was the first match for the former APR coach, who was appointed only a few days earlier.“It was indeed a tough game against Simba but I was happy with how my players were able to fight relentlessly and get a valuable point.”“It was my first game and I had only two days of training with the team, but am glad they did not let me down. I would like to make the team more tactically disciplined as we go forward,” Brandts told supersport.com.The Dutchman was reunited with some of the players he coached at APR, namely, Haruna Niyonzima and Mbuyu Twitte, who were in the starting eleven.The result put Simba at the helm of the 14-team league standings with 13 points to maintain a two-point gap over second placed Azam, who have a game. Yanga have eight points after dropping seven in five appearances.
