Governance outreach programme arrives in Burera

The general public has welcomed the initiative by Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) to set up a mobile school of governance, saying that it helps them understand vital elements of the government’s vision.RGB conducts periodic surveys and the findings are presented to the public through the mobile schools where the institution gets relevant feedback from the residents.Many say the initiative helps them understand the strategies in place to enhance economic and social development of the country.“It is important because such consultative meetings help us understand most of our fundamental rights and our obligation in jointly improving our welfare,” said Protais Mugiraneza, a resident of Bungwe Sector in Burera District.He pointed out that the initiative enabled the residents to get closer to local leaders while effectively seeking the services they want.Mugiraneza was speaking at the end of one of the mobile school sessions where members of the public were urged to resist the culture of mediocrity, either in business or government institutions that give poor services.“We, at RGB, play our role of identifying gaps, recommend solutions for further follow up and improvement of relevant institutions but the citizen’s level of satisfaction of the services received ought to be expressed,” said Sandra Shenge, the Director of Governance Monitoring and Service Delivery at RGB. She disclosed that awareness and behavioural change campaigns are scheduled to follow these periodic surveys with the aim of providing local leaders with an estimated projection of the performance grid in terms of good governance and the general social and economic development of the country.
