Rwanda will be one of the immediate beneficiaries of Africa Cricket Association (ACA) improved cash package starting next year. After this year’s Annual General Meeting which was held at the ACA headquarters in Benoni, Johannesburg, South Africa last Friday, the association has decided to increase its annual package to all ICC member countries starting next January. According to local cricketers’ governing body president Charles Haba, every affiliate member of the ICC will get an annual package of $15,000 (about Frw 8.1m); six times more than the original package $ 2500 while ICC associates members like Uganda and Tanzania will get a lot more. “This is good news because it’s probably the best thing happening to us (Rwanda Cricket Association). “But on the other hand, it also serves as a message for us to step up our administration,” Haba, who attended the meeting said yesterday. “The improved package will help us have a proper cricket ground and also improve on the already existing facilities,” he added. According to the ACA, the move of raising its support is aimed at stepping up the level of cricket development on the continent as well as globalizing the sport. However, ACA clearly pointed out that the increment will be based on performance and growth. For Rwanda, the $2500 has been serving as an administration and development grant although none of it has been in cash. Ends
