COLOMBO – Captain Stuart Broad says England must learn from the mistakes which saw the defending champions knocked out of the World Twenty20 in the Super Eights.Sri Lanka ended England’s hopes of a semi-final place with a 19-run victory.“Our fielding hasn’t been as good as it could have been, our death bowling let us down on the odd occasion and early wickets have hurt us,” said Broad.“But as long as we have learned from it - it took us three tournaments to get the experience to win it [in 2010].”England’s batting let them down against India, West Indies and Sri Lanka - the top order failing to get the team off to a good start in all three matches which England lost in the competition.They had given themselves a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals with an impressive six-wicket win against New Zealand on Saturday, but they fell short against Sri Lanka despite Samit Patel’s maiden international T20 half-century.Lasith Malinga did the damage with five wickets for the hosts, including three in one over, and Broad could not hide his disappointment.England will now begin to plan for the next World Cup, in Bangladesh in 2014, and Broad sees a bright future for his team - despite the problems in this tournament.
