Herbalists probe Rwf70 million loss

The Rwanda Traditional Healers’ Association (AGA)’s general assembly that sat over the weekend suspended its president Emmanuel Rekeraho to pave way for an investigation into Rwf70m embezzlement case.The meeting that was attended by association members, ministry of health officials and police also instructed Emmanuel Bizimana to carry out an audit of the association’s finances. The members accuse, Rekeraho of mismanagement of the funds and property. “The audit is supposed to start early next week, it will take a month, the association members accuse the president of misuse of over Rwf70 million but the audit will target every member, including staff,” said Bizimana.“I have got contradicting statements concerning the funds, so I call upon everyone to provide us with information so that the audit can be accurate,” “We need all people to participate and give proper information so that we may know how much was used, who used it and how it was used”The acting president, Daniel Gafaranga has accused Rekeraho of embezzlement under the guise of capacity building. “We found out that the president has mismanaged the association’s funds, as the law stipulates it, after audit we can have another committee,” The in charge of clinical services in the Ministry of Health, John Mwesige called on the association to seek a redress for their wrangles as they affect the development of the health sector.
