Eric Ngendahimana danced in delight after his match winner against APR FC in the Peace Cup final at Huye Stadium last weekend put Rayon Sports’ four-year trophy drought to an end. Ngendahimana, who scored winning goals against the military in the past two games, admitted that he has been looking to win something for the Blues who last won a major trophy in 2019 when they claimed the league title. And his dream came true when his lone goal made the difference in the Peace Cup final to send Huye Stadium abuzz. We’ve achieved something hugely significant, winning the trophy after four years,” the experienced defensive midfielder said. Ngendahimana has been in impressive form for 'Gikundiro', putting up impressive performances in various games over the past season. He is regarded by many Blues fans as the club hero as Rayon recorded two consecutive victories over APR FC, both in the second round of the league and the Peace Cup, courtesy of his goals. We had to cap off a season with a trophy and that is what we did today. You can take inspiration from this, but also more confidence, the former Kiyovu player said. Ngendahimana continues to establish himself as the goal king of the Peace finals. He was scoring on Saturday for a team that he scored against during the 2015 Peace Cup final as his former side Police FC beat Rayon 1-0 to clinch the trophy. It is always important to score alone in the final, I am delighted to be part of finals history, I will not forget it and even my children will see this history, he said. The win earned Rayon Sports their 10th Peace Cup title in the club's history, their first since 2016. Besides the trophy, the club was awarded a Rwf10 million worth of cash prize. While Rayon will now represent Rwanda in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, league champions APR FC will play the CAF Champions League. The arch rivals will again face off in the Super Cup in a yet to be determined date before the 2023/24 season.
