Silverbacks draw Kenya, Uganda in Safaricom 7s

NTIONAL rugby team, Silverbacks, have been drawn against Uganda and hosts Kenya in Pool B of the 17th edition of the Safaricom 7s which starts this weekend. The draw was conducted yesterday in Nairobi.Rwanda will also face French side Grenoble in this year’s tournament that has attracted sixteen teams, which are grouped in four pools of four teams each.The three-day annual tournament is scheduled to take place at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium.After three failed attempts to win the coveted trophy, the Silverbacks are hopeful on doing better this time round than on the previous three occasions.Last year, Rwanda reached the semi finals (Plate) and lost to rivals Uganda. This will be Silverbacks’ fourth appearance in the Safaricom 7s tournament which attracts elite teams from the region and beyond.Samurai, Kenya 1, Spain and Portugal were drawn as top seeds with Samurai last year’s main Cup finalists landing Pool A alongside South African side Western Province, Kenya’s second representative side Shujaa and the Uganda Kobs.Spain will be in Pool C while Portugal in their debut appearance at the Safari Sevens will headline Pool D that also features South Africa Sevens Elite Player Development squad (formerly the Emerging Boks), Zambia and the Kenya Universities Select.The drawPool A: Samurai, Western Province, Shujaa, Uganda KobsPool B: Kenya, Grenoble, Uganda Cranes, RwandaPool C: Spain, Bristol Barracudas, Hamilton Raiders, Chairman’s SelectPool D: Portugal, SA Sevens EPD, Zambia, Universities Select
