Some of you may not know her, but trust me, when you get to listen to her music, you’ll certainly understand why I say she’s ready to rock! Malia C (Carine), is a Rwandan musician who was born in Belgium and has been living in Canada until recently when she decided to pay her motherland a visit.‘Initially, my plan was to come over for a few months to visit family and see places. I heard a lot about my country and simply couldn’t wait to come home,” said Malia. She added, ‘When I told my friend Alex, (a music promoter), and family about my music, they all encouraged me to stay and make music here. Since I’d originally kick started my career singing pop music, I had to switch and make a combination that I call Afro-pop.’ Though she’s working on a genre that will suit her fans in Rwanda, Malia is also working on her Kinyarwanda as she plans on having a number of Kinyarwanda songs on her debut album to be released mid next year. Producer Pastor P, recorded her first Kinyarwanda song, ‘Dushagarire’.Currently, Malia Carine is in the studio working with Ugandan music producer, Washington, known for making hits for musicians like, Radio & Weasel, Jackie Chandiru, Urban Boys and Kitoko. They are using the Kicukiro based Big Town Records studio. So far, they’ve finished work on ‘Traffic’, a song firing up most radio stations here. Before Washington leaves the country on Sunday, he’ll have worked on a couple of songs with her.
