THE annual Genocide Volleyball Memorial Tournament has been delayed indefinitely due to financial constraints, according to Rwanda Volleyball Federation chairman Charles Uyisenga.Uyisenga said that this year’s edition of the Genocide Memorial Tournament is still in doubt because they have failed to secure sponsorship to bankroll the organisation and hosting of the tournament. The Genocide Memorial Tournament was supposed to be played the weekend of June 9-10 at Amahoro indoor stadium, but financial problems forced the federation to call off the tournament hoping to fix it in anytime before the end of the year. The competition brings together teams from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Congo-Brazzaville and Tanzania in both men and women’s categories.“The tournament would have taken place earlier this year but our sponsors (CNLG) were not ready by then, so we decided to call it off indefinitely. But the federation is working hard to find a solution,” Uyisenga told Times Sport.Uyisenga said that they are in talks with private companies to sponsor the event, adding that he is not sure whether the tournament will be held this year.“We still have doubts because no sponsor has agreed to come on board despite several efforts.”Last year CNLG pumped Rwf10m into the Genocide Memorial Tournament.APR won the men’s category, title while Rwanda Revenue Authority lifted the women’s category title for the first time.
