Three Rwandan nationals died instantly yesterday morning when a vehicle they were travelling in rammed into a fuel truck. The accident happened at Changoma village along the Mbarara -Masaka highway in Uganda. The dead, all members of one family from Rwamagana district, were travelling to Lambu landing site in Masaka for burial when their salon car registration number RAB 882Z had a head-on collision with the fuel truck coming from the opposite direction.Uganda’s Southern regional Police spokesman Noah Serunjogi identified the dead as Josephine Kabagwine, Florence Kamugema and Adeogati Karubibi.“The driver was over speeding and after driving past a corner, he veered off his lane and hit an oncoming truck,” Serunjogi said. Serunjogi said there has been a number of accidents on the highway caused by Rwandan drivers who forget and turn to the right side, instead of keeping left. While Rwandan motorists keep right, their Uganda counterparts drive on the left hand side.Officials from the Rwanda High Commission in Uganda rushed to the scene of the accident and transferred the driver, James Ndatsinga, who was critically injured to Kampala for adequate treatment.By press time yesterday, an ambulance had been dispatched from Kigali to pick the bodies of the deceased that lay at Masaka Hospital mortuary.
