Editor,Why would the Congo stop playing the victim when, from their view, it works so wonderfully? It may not bring a durable solution to their seemingly intractable problems – that would require real Herculean efforts – but God, doesn’t it shift blame so effectively to those dastardly neighbours with their insulting tendency to look at the Congolese with their superciliously pitying attitude! Meanwhile, the Congolese “leaders” can go on, together with their foreign partners, with the more satisfying activity of fattening their Swiss bank accounts and increasing their real estate holdings in the world’s prime centres of Paris, St. Tropez, Brussels, etc. (Reaction to the story titled “DRC should stop playing the victim – Mushikiwabo”, The New Times September 7)Mwene Kalinda
