Egyptian satellite operator cuts Syrian TVs broadcast due to contract reason - MENA

Egyptian satellite operator Nilesat’ s company on Wednesday cut transmission of Syrian state TV channels due to contract reasons, the official news agency MENA reported, quoting a source from the company. “The transmission has been cut since 1 p.m. (1100 GMT) due to contract reasons,” the source said in a statement.However, local media reported earlier that the Arab League (AL) had officially asked the satellite operators of Arabsat and Nilesat to stop broadcasting Syrian media contents, either public or private, such as Syria TV, al-Ekhbaria and Addounai.Meanwhile, at the opening session of the AL’s 138th regular meeting of foreign ministers, which began earlier in the day at the AL headquarters in Cairo, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said “The Arab countries were responsible for the bloodshed in Syria,” calling on Arab countries to act quickly.“The Syrian regime still has the chance to stop the violence ... We should help the Syrians to avoid civil war and prevent foreign military intervention,” Morsi added.He urged his Syrian counterpart to “learn lessons from recent history” and step aside.Morsi, who has been stern against Bashar al-Assad since he took office, gave a blistering speech on Syria at the Non-Aligned Movement summit held recently in Iran, in which he branded Damascus as “oppressive” and urged the world countries to side with the Syrian opposition.
