Investigate violence against Rwandans in DRC

Editor,We thank the editorial board of The New Times for relaying this piece of news albeit disheartening (Rwandans held hostage in DRC, August 24, 2012).We will further express appreciation if they would kindly follow up all the cases of Rwandans brutalized by DR Congolese security officials/operatives right from the beginning of the altercation between the Congolese and Rwandan governments based on infamous lies and odious rumors viciously peddled by the UN.Please diligently document all the cases of persons that sustained injuries as a result of torture inflicted on them by the Congolese security apparatus. The New Times readership would, for instance, wish to know if those persons have been duly attended to in terms of health care first, and next, if the Rwandan government has taken steps accordingly to officially acquaint the Congo government and the United Nations of their criminal responsibilities, through their Kigali based representations.There are usually specific diplomatic notes that are customarily delivered to resident ambassadors of foreign countries and resident representatives of international organisations. These notes are drafted, signed and delivered to said heads of foreign missions by the minister of foreign affairs of a given country, in this case Rwanda. Has Rwandan Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo done precisely that on behalf of Rwanda? I say “on behalf of Rwanda” and not “on behalf of the maimed, tortured or killed individual Rwandans”, because everything wholesomely considered, the offended party is Rwanda as an entity, as a nation.Individual attacks are but the surface of the crime.
