Kigali City Council-sponsored AS Kigali FC have signed striker Sylva Ochaya from Etincelles in a two year-deal for an undisclosed fee.Andrew ‘Casa’ Gasambugo, the AS Kigali head coach, has confirmed to Times Sport the signing of the Ugandan-born forward, who had two good seasons with the Rubavu-based team. “Last year we struggled in parches, but we have signed a few very good players, who are still young and I hope the new signings will help us to do well in the upcoming season,” Gasambugo said.Ochaya finished last season as the league’s third top scorer with ten goals. “He got lots of playing time with Etincelles and I’m sure he will do the same at AS Kigali and help the team to compete at the top level,” added the former Sec Academy coach.“We’re delighted to welcome him on board. He’s a highly-rated young player and gives us more cover in striking side,” Gasambugo said. “He has already played first-team football at Etincelles and I view his arrival as an important part on the development of our team.”Mukura Victory Sport, who finished in third place last season, were also interested in the striker and came close to his signature, but AS Kigali moved in quickly and got their man. AS Kigali finished last season in 8th position.They have also signed Soter Kayumba, Patrick Umwungeli, Janvier Mutijima, Jean Paul Niyonzima, Mohamed Mushimiyimana, and Ibrahim Itangishaka, all from Sec Academy.Gasambugo, who worked with the youngsters at SEC Academy, believe their addition will help the side to improve on last season’s finishing.
