THIS year’s Carres d’AS volleyball tournament has been delayed indefinitely due to financial problems, according to Rwanda Volleyball Federation Executive Secretary Gertrude Kubwimana. The competition brings together the top four club teams of the national volleyball championship both in the men and women’s categories.Initially the tournament was supposed to be played on the weekend of August 11-12 at Amahoro stadium indoor courts, but it did not take place due to delays in disbursement of organisation and prize funds – by the sponsor, SORAS.In past years, the tournament used to take place two weeks after the end of national volleyball championship. “The tournament would have taken place earlier this month but our sponsor (SORAS) was not ready by then, so we decided to call it off indefinitely. But the federation is working closely with SORAS to find a solution,” Kubwimana told Times Sport.Participants would be League champions APR, Lycée de Nyanza, National University of Rwanda (NUR) and INATEK (men), while APR, RRA, Ruhango and St. Aloys would compete in the women category.Past winners (since 2005)Men’s category2005 – NUR2006 – NUR2007 – APR2008 – NUR2009 – APR2010 – NUR2011 – APRWomen’s category2005 – Les Colombes2006 – NUR2007 – APR2008 – RRA2009 – APR2010 – RRA2011 – RRA
