A global technology firm will offer cloud computing services to microfinance institutions in Kenya as part of a move to make them more competitive. The services will also help mitigate cases of fraud. Sofgen, a Swiss-based technology and software firm which has its Africa headquarters in Nairobi, is also out to increase its presence in the country as it seeks to tap into emerging opportunities in the financial and technology sector. The firm’s Africa region chief executive officer, Mr Tunde Oladele, said microfinance institutions face a huge challenge in adopting information technology to improve their operations as most of them cannot afford such systems. “We are in talks with various microfinance institutions with a view to migrating their operations and systems,” he said.
