WESTERN PROVINCE NYAMASHEKE — Secondary students in several schools in Nyamasheke district have formed clubs that will help fight corruption and injustice in society. Seraphin Rumaziminsi Ntagwabira, an official from the Ombudsman’s office said the move would help the government in the anti-corruption crusade. Addressing teachers and club members of Groupe scolaire st Joseph, and Groupe scolaire st Famille, Rumaziminsi urged the students to carry out the campaign among fellow students and local communities. It’s good that as students you have a vision to form up such clubs that are meant to stop injustice and corruption in this region. But I also urge you to go ahead by mobilizing and sensitizing all your fellow students and residents to fight against such crimes in their respective places of residence and work, Rumaziminsi urged. The students were also encouraged to always report corruption cases to concerned authorities in time and to share information regarding injustice and corruption situation in order to get solutions. During the meeting, students learnt the activities that the office of the Ombudsman carries out and the problems that the Ombudsman’s office addresses. The students were further asked to always compile complaints about corruption tendencies among residents and forward them to the Ombudsman’s head office in Kigali. Damascene Muhigira, a senior five student of Groupe scolaire st Joseph who is a member of the Anti-corruption club at the school, said the club members have committed themselves to wipe out corruption.
