Sec Academy unveil ambitious US$5m facility

AFTER his football and athletics Academy become successful, Sec Academy Managing Director Augustin Munyandamusta has gone a step further by unveiling plans to construct a sports facility worth US$ 5m, which should be completed in the six years’ time.The proposed facility will be home to five different schools of football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, and tennis as well a learning centre, gym and library, all state of the art.Asked where he plans to get such amount of money, Munyandamusta said “from selling SEC Academy players to clubs in Europe, Asia, North America”. He noted that his ambition project will be the biggest in East and Central Africa.“It is a long term project which we are committed to executing and we believe by 2018, the facility will be up and running. Our plan is to generate money from selling our players to European clubs,” Munyandamusta said as he showed Times Sport an architectural view of the facility.Sec Academy has already sold defender Solomon Nirisarike to Belgian club Royal Antwerp for a reported US$80.000 (about Rwf48m) which Munyandamusta says was re-invested in the academy. The school also provided the bulk of players for the U-17 team at the world cup in Mexico last year.Two youngsters Isaie Songa (striker) and Mohammed Muhimiyimana (midfielder) from Sec Academy are expected travel to Belgium this weekend for trials with Royal Antwerp.
