The New Times’ award-winning sports reporter, Edmund Okai Gyimah, was named the best student in Mass Communication at the East African University, during their fourth graduation ceremony held in Nyagatare on Thursday, May 25. The sports journalist took home a fully-connected one-year DSTV subscription. READ ALSO: The New Times reporter named among best African sports writers Gyimah has been ranked by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) among the top 10 sports writers in Africa for three consecutive years. “Obviously I am extremely glad. My hard work has paid off. It has been a great week because on Tuesday, for the third consecutive year, I was voted among the top ten sports writers in Africa by AIPS. And now I have also won the best Mass Communication student award on my graduation,” he told Times Sport. “The skills I learnt at the University will be very beneficial to me in the job market as far as professionalism is concerned. Gyimah wants to continue his studies and reach the highest point on the academic ladder. Education has no end. After getting this degree, my target is to get to the highest point in the media field and obtain every available higher degree,” Gyimah added. The Ghana-born reporter joined The New Times in October 2021 and has since made a name for himself as a reliable sports writer.
