WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI—One week after local Gacaca president Faustin Mbonigaba confessed to taking bribes worth Frw2.5 million, authorities have arrested another nine people in Gacaca corruption scandals.The arrested, all in their forties, include two Genocide suspects and seven Genocide survivors.The culprits were caught “red-handed” on the morning of Tuesday, September 4, in Ntura cell of Giheke sector after exchanging bribes worth Frw45,000 with two Genocide suspects in the area.The seven arrested survivors, police commander Celestin Kamari, had written a list of all residents in search of bribes.Police, army and other security agencies have doubled efforts in the area as regards to corruption cases.One of the arrested, Vincent Ntampfurayinda admitted guilt. “Yes I and my colleague paid Frw45, 000 to seven genocide survivors in order to be acquitted over our Genocide crimes in the sector.”But a spokesman for the seven survivors denied all charges.“All what I know is that these allegations are baseless and based on political issues because me my colleagues have not been in good terms with our sector executive secretary.”The group includes Jane Mukyeshimana, Merania Nyiransabimana, Emmanuel Rugirahabiri, Vincent Ntampfurayinda, Simon Sindayiheba, Innocent Sengarambe, Vincent Ntibwami, Israel Urayeneza and John Mwitende.Ends
