Editor,Joseph Rwagatares opinion piece titled “Why Kagame and Rwanda are under attack in the DRC” (The New Times, July, 31), expresses my own stand far better than I could have done myself. Let me add my voice briefly that it’s a fact that these preachers of peace cannot get over the shame of standing by as a million hapless Rwandans were being slaughtered. It will haunt them forever. The Genocide was only stopped by Kagame and RPF while the west was looking on, not bothered at all. And worst of all, Rwanda has refused to behave according to the script on aid, donors arrogantly insisting we adhere to strict instructions. The President has never ceased to remind Rwandans of the national security risk of dependency on those who assume they are buying the right to decide on our behalf. In a way, we have just received a rude reminder that we should start weaning ourselves off aid. Mwene Kalinda
