SOUTHERN PROVINCE MUHANGA — Residents this week foiled an attempted arson on two families of Genocide survivors in Kagitarama village, Muhanga district. Two people whose identities are yet to be known had poured petrol on doors steps of Théoneste Musabyimana and Céléstine Ruberanziza on May 13, in an attempt to set the house ablaze and kill the occupants. But their neighbours raised alarms and the purported arsonists vanished. Similar attackers also reappeared on Wednesday evening and pelted stones on doors and rooftops of the same people, according to sources. At least two people, both neighbours of the attacked families, have been arrested in connection with the incidents. The suspects identified as Domitila Mukandayisenga, and Sindayigaya, were pinned by residents during a community security meeting on Thursday. Scores of residents accused the duo of a series of similar previous attacks in the area. “There have been constant attack to these specific families and this has caused fear for lives among hundreds of survivors living in the area,” a survivor said. Security officials have asked residents to provide information that would lead to successful arrest and prosecution of the masterminds. Ends
