A traditional healer in Karambo, Mushya Sector in Rwamagana District, Jacques Kalisa, has been arrested after a patient died mysteriously in his house.Daniel Mparaye, 27, a resident of Gishali Sector, was discovered dead at the Kalisa’s house on Saturday morning, by the local community policing committee.Medical reports from Rwamagana hospital, where the autopsy was carried out, indicate that the deceased died of toxic herbal acids said to have been given to him by Kalisa.The suspect, who is currently held at Rwamagana police station, is facing charges of manslaughter.Supt James Muligande, Rwamagana District police commander, confirmed the arrest.“The public should desist from such means of acquiring medical treatment because they are dangerous,” said Muligande, urging them to go for legally recognised medical services and to embrace the government health insurance scheme.Article 157 of the penal code on involuntary manslaughter, states that any person who causes death of another person without intention shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of between Rwf 500,000 to Rwf2 million or one of these penalties.
