MTN Rwanda is not party to short messages (SMS) congratulating customers of winning $ 1,000,000, it has emerged. Management also denies circulating emails congratulating its customers of winning up to $ 10,000,000. Senior sales and marketing manager Yvonne Manzi Makolo said: “We (MTN) would like to bring to the attention of all our clients a fraudulent email and SMS being sent out regarding a huge cash prize allegedly won in FIFA 2010 World Cup raffle draw. No such draw has ever taken place.” The infringing message is sent out by one Dr. Richard Munge from South Africa requesting you to fill a form, providing your personal data and account details where the fraudulent prize money will be channeled. “We categorically dismiss and distance ourselves from this message being sent out through SMS to your mobile phones and to you email addresses,” she further said. Makolo, however says that MTN being an official sponsor of the 2010 World Cup, the only competition that took place is the “FIFA 2010 Win a TV” SMS competition. She says that the telecom company is using all relevant channels to track down the origin of this message and take appropriate measures. Ends
