The first ever national tennis ranking tournament will feature 50 players in three categories which include: seniors, ladies and U-16. The week-long competition is slated to run from July 24-29 at Cercle Sportif in Rugunga, and Rwanda Tennis president Theoneste Karenzi is promising a competitive tournament as players vie good rankings.“Every player would like to be in the top 5 or top 10 tennis players in the country that is why I think the tournament will be very competitive. We shall select the national team basing on their rankings and we will be seeding players also based on that.“So it is competition that players can not afford to take lightly,” Karenzi told Sunday Sport. The tournament is the first in a series of competitions that will award points to players which is why officials in the tennis federation are optimistic it will motivate players and increase their competitiveness.
