Relationships:Single Not by Choice

All my wants, needs, requirements, every single thing, can be summarized in one single word: Girlfriend. All I want is a girlfriend. Not many girlfriends, just one girl I can call mine. Not lots of money, not fame, not celebrity status, but a girl I can call my girlfriend. Yes, laugh away, I mean, after all you change girlfriends every so often, and you can’t understand how a man can say he has failed to get a girlfriend. Well, yes, I have failed to get a girlfriend, and am a man. Just like you. So, why do girls choose you and not me, I totally have no idea. Could be something to do with the fact that I don’t have lots of money, but come on, am not the brokest guy on earth!There are guys way broker than me who have beautiful ladies lining up for them. But me, not even a single one. Several times I have come close, and then, I would have joined the ranks of men with girlfriends. But, trust fate, or whatever it is that keeps robbing me of my chances. Like this one time, a few years back when I was still in high school. I almost got her, but, you know what happened I didn’t! This is what happened.I lived next to this family that only had daughters. There were seven girls in that house, and all of them were incredibly beautiful. Every evening, every hour of the day, there was a boy or man coming to see one of the girls. Here is where you ask me “and what were you doing, seeing that you were neighbors to a house full of girls”. To be honest, I was doing nothing. It was too much for me, I was overwhelmed. Of course I wanted a girlfriend, but I felt clearly that these particular girls were out of my league. I had never dated a girl before, and I couldn’t imagine starting out with someone who was probably dating straight from primary school. And, to make it worse, they treated me like I was their own brother, which put me at a total disadvantage. How do u tell someone who treats you like a brother that you want her to be your girlfriend? Not as easy as you are thinking. Once, I decided to be bold, and tell one of them my true feelings. So, I went over to her house, smartly dressed, and instead of finding that girl, I found her bigger sister, who was older than me. She didn’t even ask me who I wanted to see, it was like I was part of their family. Lunch was served, and just as we were finishing the girl I wanted to tell came back home. Suddenly, I couldn’t talk. Yeah, my tongue has this very disturbing habit of deciding not to move when I need it to convey words and feelings and things that are happening in my head, and my heart. The tongue totally rebelled. The big sister thought I was choking on food, and passed me some water. But I wasn’t choking at all, at least not on food. After some time, I recovered, and feeling like a total reject, I postponed my mission of telling her.I kept postponing and postponing the thing until one day, she told me about her boyfriend. Can you imagine that? This time, I chocked for real. I was sipping on coke, and she told me, I guess I forgot to swallow and the coke went into my lungs. I coughed till tears came to my eyes, and I wasn’t even sure if the tears were because of coughing or because she had just given me the worst news of the year. Still coughing, I stood up and went home.A week later, I told her everything. And I could see her caught in a conflict. She knew I was serious, because immediately after telling me, besides that chocking thing, I didn’t talk to her again, because couldn’t bring myself to talk to her. I nolonger even went to visit their house. So when I told her about my long suffering affection for her, she knew I wasn’t joking. She went and told her big sister, who told her big sister, and soon, every one including their parents knew about my little hit-and-miss incident. And soon after that, it lost its seriousness and became a joke. And that’s how I lost the little chance I had of stealing her away from her boyfriend, and for once, also having a girlfriend.
