Swedish government donates US $ 1 million to AG’s office

NYARUGENGE - The Swedish government has donated Euro1million to the government of Rwanda to support capacity building in the Office of the Auditor General. The three-year grant of will help the institution to set up Information Technology infrastructure, technical assistance and human resource development. The signing of the agreement between both parties was held at the Ministry of Finance and Economic planning on May 9. The Minister of Finance and Economic planning, James Musoni signed on behalf of the Rwandan government while Arne Strom represented the Swedish government. Strom who is the head of Development cooperation in Swedish Embassy (Kigali) said that the support will help auditor generals’ office in strengthening the institution through training, procuring equipment and consultancy work. “The institution is strong and it has improved in providing quality and comprehensive annual reports which helps the government to make some decisions,” she said. The Auditor General, Evelyn Kamagaju commended the Swedish government, saying the grant would support and empower the institution to carry out research and investigations of many institutions. The Swedish government began financing AG’s office in 2001. The Swedish government has also been active in several sectors. It supports the national budget, capacity building in the National University of Rwanda, decentralization program and working with Rwanda Information and Technology Agency (RITA) to improve ICT in the country.
