CEPGL honours Genocide victims

The Economic Commission of the Great Lakes Countries (CEPGL) Wednesday held a memorial vigil for six former employees who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.They include; Athanase Kanamugire, Beatrice Bamurange, Alphonse Kabiligi, Jean Rutagarama, Joseph Niyonzima and Alexis Kagame.During the service, the bloc’s Executive Secretary, Hernan Tuyaga, emphasised that it was vital to keep remembering those who perished.“It is important to remember our fallen colleagues because it is our responsibility to give moral support to their families and ensure that what happened never happens again,” He pledged to make the vigil an annual event so as to accord the victims respect.Relatives who talked to The New Times appreciated the initiative to honour their loved ones.CEPGL is an international organisation created in September 1976 to fast track the economic integration and the facilitation of movement of goods and people between the three countries of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
