Belgium funds four health centres

Four health centres worth Euro 2.5million, funded by the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) through a four-year project dubbed ‘Institutional Support Programme and Implementation of the Health Development Plan for Kigali City’ (PAPSDSK), are set to open their doors to Kigali residents by September this year, The New Times reports.“In the next two months, we shall have finished construction works. Equipping the health centres will immediately start to ensure that the population can access medical services before the end of September,” said Dr. Blaise Uhagaze, the Director General of PAPSDSK, in an exclusive interview.Two of the facilities will be based in Mageregere and Kanyinya sectors of Nyarugenge District, one in Remera, Gasabo District and another in Gatenga Sector, Kicukiro District.In a related development, the project has also launched a programme to equip 26 maternity centres in the city, according to the officer in charge of Primary Health Care and Community Health at PAPSDSK, John Zirimwangabo.“We started with training health workers to build their capacity, not only in using the equipment, but also to share health information.” PAPSDSK has been training dispensary and clinic operators to effectively use the District Health Information System (DHIS2).The system enables dispensaries and clinics as well as the public health sector to share information with their respective districts as well as the Ministry of Health.Information sharing is expected to help in guiding medical health providers on the best or required treatment basing on the major diseases identified.
