This year’s event, like in the past has attracted athletes from the regional powerhouses; Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Other are from DR Congo, Morocco, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Iceland, Germany, Luxembourg, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, England, Australia, France, Armenia, Ireland, Mauritius and hosts Rwanda. Athletes to this year’s Kigali marathon are set to start from Amahoro stadium-Chez Lando hotel-Parliament house-Green hills academy-Parliament house-Chez Lando hotel-TPIR-KIE-Police and climax at Amahoro stadium. Full marathon athletes will traverse the above route four times, making 42.1km while half marathon athletes will only traverse twice to cover 21.9km. Run for Fun athletes are expected to run 5 km from Amahoro stadium-TPIR-KIE-Police and back to Amahoro stadium. The Kigali International Marathon is fully supported by Rwanda President, Paul Kagame and sponsored by Ministry of Culture and Sport, Rwanda National Olympic Committee, Soroptimist International and Rwanda’s tourism body ORTPN as well as Sulfo Rwanda to a total tune of $23.200 (about Frw1.3 millions).
